About Us

Family

Schulman Theatres has been a family owned and operated business since 1926. It was started in 1926 by Abraham and his son Morris Schulman who opened the Queen and the Dixie Theatre in Downtown Bryan, Texas. Morris's wife, Edna "Blondie" Schulman, took over the business after his death and is seen in the picture above (or to your right on a desktop) selling tickets at the Queen Box Office. In 1948 Morris Sr's son, Billy "The Movie Man" Schulman, took over the family business after serving in WWII and attending Texas A&M University. Billy and his wife, Christine, had 3 children, Mark, Morris, and Craig. Billy's son Morris has continued the Schulman Family tradition by opening traditional theatres including City Lights Hudson Oaks, City Lights Georgetown, and Dogwood 6. Morris has 5 children, Jackie, Jacob, Nathan, Clayton, and Moby who are currently the 5th generation of Schulman's stepping up to further the Schulman brand. Currently both Jacob and Clayton Schulman are continuing the Schulman Family tradition by working with Morris to run the current theatre circuit. We pride ourselves on being a family run business that extends into our operations.

History

Check out our fun video below about the 3rd Generation Schulman of Schulman Theatres, William "Billy" Schulman!!

Schulman Theatres was started in 1926 by Abraham and his son Morris Schulman who opened the Queen and the Dixie Theatre in Downtown Bryan, Texas. Shortly after the Queen and the Dixie were opened, the Schulman's purchased the Bryan City Hall building and converted it into the Palace Theatre. In 1948 Morris Sr's son, Billy "The Movie Man" Schulman, took over the family business after serving in WWII and attending Texas A&M University. Billy's son Morris has continued the Schulman Family tradition by opening traditional theatres including City Lights Hudson Oaks, City Lights Georgetown, and Dogwood 6. He has also coined the term Movie Entertainment Center by opening Film Alley Bastrop and Film Alley Weatherford which not only includes first run movies, but also bowling, redemption arcade, restaurant, and bar. Morris has 5 children, Jackie, Jacob, Nathan, Clayton, and Moby who are currently the 5th generation of Schulman's stepping up to further the Schulman brand.   You will see examples of our history throughout our facilities as we try to celebrate our history with every location.  For example at Film Alley Weatherford, you will find a replica of the Queen tower at the entrance to the THEATRE section of the facility.   This is just one example of showing our history in our facilities.
